James Lee’s first shock-fest feature with Tayangan Unggul, Histeria, opens in Malaysian cinemas 18 Dec 2008. They don’t have a website yet but… there’s already a review in Variety. With Liyana Jasmay playing lead, I wonder if we’ll see if her performance has progressed since KAMI (of course, shooting doesn’t happen consecutively, and I’m not sure which was shot first).

If you’ve been following the Malay journalistic compas (and I do jest) that is Utusan Malaysia over the past few months, they have been publishing reports of a continuous case of hysteria among school girls in Kuantan, Pahang. I’m not trying to belittle the psychological/emotional/spiritual distress that is associated with the phenomenon, but it’s just that when it comes to the Malay press there is the perception that these angles need to be extra-sensationalized.

Well… I wonder if the idea of viral marketing had occured to Tayangan Unggul… and if they had a hand in the SMK Tanjung Lumpur incidents??! Heh.
